MIAL begins construction of the new integrated passenger terminal at Sahar
Mumbai, February 20, 2009: Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL) today flagged off the construction of the new integrated passenger terminal building at Sahar. When completed, the new terminal building will cater to both domestic and international passengers. Honourable Union Minister of Civil Aviation Mr. Praful Patel and Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra Mr. Ashok Chavan were present at the ground-breaking ceremony. The design of the new terminal combines International and Domestic passenger services under one roof optimizing terminal operations in coordination with the airline schedules. The highly flexible gating plan and terminal arrangement will ultimately accommodate 40 million passengers per year operating 24 hours a day. The terminal building will have a total floor area of nearly 4.3 million sq. mtrs spread across four levels.

700,000 SF of Retail, F&B, Lounges and Travel Services
Terminal Peak Hour Passenger capacity at 9,900

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. G V Krishna Reddy, Chairman, MIAL said: “The ground-breaking marks a significant milestone for MIAL and underscores the fact that we have now taken the crucial step from the drawing board to actual construction. The new integrated terminal will significantly enhance the capacity of CSIA and is in line with our vision to offer customers a state-of-the-art facility and an international landmark benchmarked on global standards of airport operations. Modernization of CSIA is indeed a very challenging project due to the land constraints. However, we are committed to give Mumbai an airport that the city can be proud of.”
